What do you do when VANCOUVER ISLAND SALT CO sea salt harvestry is right next to an award-winning single malt whisky distiller? Why of course you create your most artisinal micro-batch sea salt infusion ever by:

- Hand selecting a few of their best barrels that were used to age this amazing spirit

- Shaving off only the wood that's been most saturated by the whisky

- Putting those shavings into the smoker with some of our hand-harvested True North Sea Salt Flakes

- Cold smoking for at least three days to get the perfect whisky smoke!

We weren't sure what we would get, but the result is a fine flake with a surprisingly deep yet smooth smokiness from the American oak barrel with added complexity of the whisky including a hint of its signature vanilla notes. This is simply the best smoked sea salt Vancouver Island Salt Co. have ever made!

Small batch. Handcrafted. Cold smoked using single malt whisky barrels from Shelter Point Distillery.

This smoky, crunchy, finishing flake sea salt is redolent of whisky and smoked bacon with a bold spicy oak aroma that blooms and amplifies as you taste the salt. This smoked salt is fantastic on grilled meats and vegetables, and works great as part of a salty-sweet combo like salted caramel and salted chocolate desserts. We like this salt crushed and sprinkled on buttered sourdough toast, and the whole crystals added to salad dressings.

Salt colour varies from crystal to crystal: translucent off-white to pale brown to grey and even black (there will be blackened crystals as result of the smoking process).

Packaged in a resealable glass jar. Keep sealed when not in use to preserve aroma.
